1. St. Mark’s Basilica- Venice, Italy
Principles:
Symmetrical Balance- domes are arranged on left
and right, front and rear part of the cathedral.
Emphasis- the portals on right and left side of the
cathedral emphasizes the main portal at the
center.
Variety- for it breaks the repetition of the small
arched portals through the larger one at the
center.
Harmony- the façade has five arched portals that
are rhythmically repeated arranged that
complement to the visual image.
Contrast- it has no mosaic on the upper main
arch of the structure while both left and right has.
The mosaic is at the main portal.

Texture- rough
Principles:
Proportion- you wouldn’t think that the façade shown in the picture at right is
shorter in height if you will not look it on the other angle. You will notice that the
feature of the façade in right is much taller than the north façade as shown in the
picture above.
Repetition- there is repetition
Variety- it has variety for it changes the size or height of one feature if you look at
another angle of the structure that adds interest to the visual image.
