Michael & Tara Houston are not only
married; they’re also business partners
who have brought a wealth of experience
together to build a very successful real
estate venture. This enterprising husband
and wife team are Real Estate Consultants with eXp
Realty in Leesburg, Virginia.
Although Michael worked for several years as a loan
officer, Tara, who comes from an academic background,
got her real estate license first. She spent four years as
a high school English teacher, and then another five
years as an assistant principal at a middle school. Tara
and Michael first learned about real estate by investing
in property for themselves. They had been doing well,
and Tara had gotten her real estate license in 2005. A
teacher who worked for Tara, asked her to help sell her
current house and buy a new one. Tara did a great job for
her friend and really liked the work. It was great timing
because the couple were raising two young sons (at that
time), and Tara, needing a more flexible schedule, thought
she would enjoy working with real estate full time.
She quit her full-time assistant principal position and
began working with a local RE/MAX office. Michael
was a Senior Loan Officer for a mortgage lender that had
been grappling with the difficult lending environment at
the time. In 2007, shortly before the big real estate crash
and recession, the company closed its doors. Michael
decided it was a good time to re-focus his career. Despite
the problems in the market, Tara continued to do well,
so the couple decided to join forces. Michael got his
real estate license and the two have never looked back.
They worked for a while with RE/MAX and then were
affiliated with a small company, Classive Realty. They
were with Classive Realty for over five years until they
learned about eXp Realty in 2012.
eXp Realty is an agent-owned, cloud-based company that
provides systems, tools and educational opportunities
for its partners. Tara and Michael saw that it was a
good way to expand their operations. Not only would
they join a network of top-notch professionals, eXp
Realty also provided a technologically savvy system
and infrastructure to process transactions. This allowed
the couple to focus more on bringing in business while
enhancing the service they could provide to their clients.
In the last three years, they have built a team of 27 agents
to join eXp Realty, and Tara became theAssociate Broker
and Compliance Director for the region. Today, their
territory includes all of Northern Virginia and Maryland.
Because of their superb customer service, Michael and
Tara have a stellar reputation, and almost all of their new
business comes from referrals from past clients and their
real estate partners. Their personal mission is to help
people build a legacy through homeownership. For them,
a legacy means creating wealth, security, freedom and
peace of mind for their clients to enjoy the lifestyle of
their dreams in a home they love and in the community
they desire. Michael and Tara not only find the right
home for their clients, they also take the time to educate

Michael and Tara are a caring and loving couple who take
genuine pleasure in serving others. Though their lives are
certainly busy, raising four young sons and maintaining a
full-time work schedule, they also find time to be involved
in their community. Not only are they leaders in their
local church, Harvest Life Changers Church, they’re also
involved in various community and charitable activities.
For example, Tara co-founded and helps run a local 4H
Club, and Michael, an avid golfer, is the event director
for an annual golf classic charity event to raise money
for their church’s community outreach programs that’s
changing lives.
