3. • A force is an interaction that causes an
affected object to be pushed or pulled
in a certain direction. This results in an
alteration to the state of the object.
• Whenever force acts, two objects are
involved.
E.g. When we kick a ball, we push it
whereas we need to pull when hitching
a trailer to a car.
What is Force ?
5. EFFECTS OF FORCE
An object can be in 2 states:
1) Rest state : when the object is not
moving
2) Motion state: when the object is
moving
A force can move a stationary object. A
force can speed up, decrease the speed
and change the direction of a moving
object . Hence , we can say that force
can change the state of motion.
You can change the shape of a
rubber band and a spring by
stretching it in opposite
directions.
Hence, we can say that forces can
change the shape of an object
6. Types of
forces
Contact forces Non-contacting forces
Muscular forces Friction force
Magnetic force
Electrostatic forces
Gravitational force
7. 1 ) A charged balloon gets attracted to a
wall because of ______:
Muscular force
Gravitational force
Electrostatic force
Magnetic force
2) An example of a non- contact force is:
Force exerted by us to lift a bucket
Push a stationary car
Force exerted by magnet
Hit a cricket ball for a 6 run

8. 3) If in a tug-o-war, two teams are pulling a rope,
it does not move towards any team, it implies
that :
Equal force is being applied in the same direction
Equal Force is being applied in opposite direction
No force is applied in any direction
Cannot be explained
4)A batsman hits the ball for a boundary past the
bowler that is four runs. The batsman thus :
Changes the direction & speed of the ball
Does not change the direction but speed only
Does not change the speed but direction only
Does not change either direction or speed
