Argentina is located at the southern tip of South America and is surrounded by Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil and Uruguay. It has a population of over 41 million people, mostly of European descent. The capital and largest city is Buenos Aires. Argentina has a GDP of $51 billion and a republican form of government led by a president and vice president. Traditional occupations include gauchos, who work as cowboys on farms known as estancias. In 1982 Argentina went to war with Britain over the Falkland Islands, surrendering after 74 days.
