2. Jean Baudrillard’s Theory
• Jean’s theory is : “A condition in which
“reality” has been replaced by simulacra”
which means that the original thing is
replaced by something which is very similar.
• He argues that we live in such a media driven
time that media images replace reality to such
an extent it is hard to distinguish between
Hollywood movies and Reality.
3. Different Affects
• Bricolage
• Pastiche
• Intertextuality
• Breaking down the forth wall
• Parody
• Hyper consciousness
• Hyper Reality
• Homage
• Narcissism
4. This is an example of bricolage because a doctors drama is mixed with a comedy with the reme
alcohol bottle.
Bricolage
5. Pastiche
In the video the artist dresses up as a super hero with a back
wards capital “E” symbol on his top. This is the artist dressing
like the DC Comic’s hero Robin but instead of the “R” the artist
uses the first letter from his name Eminem instead.
6. This shot is making a reference to
Morpheus from the Matrix movies. This is
another example of pasthice.
7. The artist also made his background
look like an comic for example
Detective Comics in these images this
example may be classed as both
Pastiche and Intertextuality.
8. The artist is showing his symbol
being shown on a cloud in the
sky. This is a reference from the
DC comic’s Bat Man’s symbol. This
could also be an example of
Pastiche.
Intertextuality
This background from the
video the audience can tell
that it is a simulation to show
that the video isn’t real
9. The logo on the background is
the E! logo but the capital E is
backwards to show the artists
logo. They have copied the “E!”
logo from the TV channel. This is
also another example of pastiche.
10. This is the artist breaking the 4th wall by him singing and looking at the camera. This shows the
audience that this isn’t real and he knows that he is being filmed.
Breaking down the 4th wall
11. • This shot in the music video is a parody as some
one is impersonating Osama Bin Laden waving a
white flag which we know didn’t happen. Also
the c in the cnn logo is backwards and a line in
the middle to make it look like a capital e.
Parody
12. • In the video the artist has an action bubble which
has the word “Kapow!” which has copied exactly
(except for the hyphen and the explosion in the
background) from the original hero’s comics.
• The whole video is hyper consciousness as nothing
which happens in the video is real. Also there is no
Narcissism featured in the music video.
Homage
