2. Demographics Small, rural community of about 2,500 Median family income is $31,500; per capita income is just short of $16,000 School enrollment is 470 for grades 7-12. Mix of male to female students is apx. 50/50. Apx. 1/3 of students are on free or reduced lunch.
3. Interview Results Met with Larry Coldiron, principal at Raceland. The school is working toward showing more growth in their annual school report card. They perform consistently with the rest of the state, but improvement is too gradual, and some subjects are still not improving. Implemented RTI in the middle school setting, with many students receiving the help they need in both reading and math. Students are assessed three times per year while in the RTI program to determine if they are benefitting from it or need further assistance.
4. The school has a good special ed program given the size of the school. 2 dedicated full-time special ed teachers work with students outside of their inclusion classes, and there are currently 2 part-time instructional aides who work with students in general education classes. Outside of a foreign exchange student or two, there are no ELL students at the school.
5. NCLB Annual Progress Students are meeting annual measurable goals in reading and math. Students are meeting the participation rate. Other academic indicators are being met.
