Survey analysis Lucy Williams
In this question, I asked ‘Which do you prefer to read about?’ with the options being- Other, Reviews, Interviews and Gigs. The graph above shows that half of the people who answered picked that they prefer reading about interviews. A quarter of the people also picked gigs and less people preferred to read reviews. I am going to use this data by including an interview on my double page spread as I would like my target audience to want be interested in what is featured in the magazine. I could also add some gig information in to the magazine as the graph suggests that a large proportion of the people asked also preferred to read about gigs.
In this question, I asked ‘On a front cover do you prefer just one image or several images?’. The graph shows that more people preferred to see several images on the front cover of a magazine rather than just one main image. I could take this information in to consideration when designing the front cover as instead of just having one large image on the cover, I could add a few more to entice the readers attention as there is a lot happening on the page as there is a lot to look at.
In this question, I asked ‘Which of the following draws your attention to the front cover of a magazine the most?’. The graph above shows that an equal number of people answered that the title and front cover image enticed them the most whilst ‘cover stories’ proved popular also, and ‘free gifts’ proving less popular with less answers than the other three options. I am going to take this data in to consideration when designing my front cover by making sure that the front cover image and title are different, unusual and that they should attract my target audience by appealing to them.
In this question, I asked ‘Do you prefer magazines with bright colours or dark colours?’. The graph shown above shows that a huge majority of the people asked answered that they prefer seeing bright colours on a magazine whilst a very small percentage chose that they like to see dark colours. I can understand this data, and I am going to consider the answers shown above by including bright colours throughout each page of the magazine to make it stand out from other magazines.
In this question, I asked ‘When reading a magazine, do you prefer it to be text dominated or image dominated?’. Half of the people asked, answered that they prefer the magazine to be image dominated, around 41% preferred the magazine to be balanced and a very small percentage preferred it to be text dominated. I am going to consider this information by either making the magazine image dominated with a lot of different images on the page, or balancing the magazine with large images and small text.
In this question, I asked ‘Would you buy a magazine because it has a free gift?’. The graph above shows that there is a significant difference between the percentage of people who answered that they would buy a magazine because it has a free gift, and those who answered that they wouldn’t.  I will consider this data by perhaps advertising some sort of free product on the cover of the magazine not only to make the reader buy the magazine, but to draw their attention to the information on the front cover around the advertisement.
