1. Singapore join the ASEAN
ASEAN founded 8 august 1967 to promote cooperation between Indonesia, Thailand,
the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore and the ASEAN declaration is sign in Bangkok.
Singapore as one of the founding coutry.Since then, membership has expanded to include
Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, loans and Vietnam.
On 23 February 1976. The first summit of the ASEAN is held in the Bali, Indonesia.
The treaty of amity and cooperation (TAC) in southeast is signed by all ASEAN Heads of the
state and government. TAC is a peace agreement between Southeast Asian countries. TAC
was established by the founding members of the ASEAN. Besides that, the ASEAN
secretariat is also established.
Singapore supports the concept of Southeast Asia regionalism and plays an active role
in the ASEAN. 6 November 1989, Singapore is also a member of the Asia pacific economic
cooperation (APEC) forum which has its secretariat in Singapore and attends the grouping’s
first ministerial meeting held in Canberra, AUSTRALIA.
In January 1992, Singapore hosts the 4th ASEAN summit to decide which agrees to
launch the ASEAN free trade area.
In 2000, Singapore launched the initiative for ASEAN integration (IAI) to assists in
the integration of the new member countries, Cambodia, Loas, Myanmar and Vietnam
(CLMV), into ASEAN. The flagship projects is the setting up of a training center in each of
the CLMV countries.
In 1 January 2001, Singapore starts its first two-year term in the United Nations
Security Council.

depends to a large extent on ASEAN’s economic progress and competitive and remains fully
committed to efforts to forge ahead with the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) and the
ASEAN investment area.
Singapore joins the United States.
Singapore applied to join the United States (UN) on 3th September 1965. This is
happened after less than a month the Singapore separate from Malaysia. Singapore becomes
the 117th UN member state on 21 September 1965.
Singapore works to develop and maintain good tie with other countries through a
variety of diplomatic effort and channels. The republic was admitted to the UN shortly after
independence, and has benefited greatly from its UN membership. Singapore believe that
small nation states, which comprise more than half of the UN’s membership, can play a
greater role in ensuring international peace and stability .
Singapore has worked closely with the UN and its supporting agencies on a variety of
efforts. Supporting the UN department for political affairs and UN official for coordination
of humanitarian affairs in their work in the region. Such as, Singapore worked with the UN to
promote national reconciliation and a political solution in Myanmar following internal unrest
in the country in September 2007. The republic also worked to facilitate and organize relief,
fund-raising and other humanitarian efforts in Myanmar in May 2008, following Cyclone
Nargis.
Because of the joining the united nation, Singapore becomes actively in various
global, multinational and unilateral organization to promote international cooperation.
