  • 2. Most people know Capoeira from Tekken’s EddyGordo and Christie Monteiro.
  • 3. One word to define Capoeira: LIBERDADE- Portuguese term for “Freedom”.
  • 4. WHY LIBERDADE? A bit of Capoeira HistoryThere are many theories as to how Capoeiraoriginated, and we cannot really say which is the“right” one due to lack of documentation.
  • 5. WHY LIBERDADE? A bit of Capoeira HistoryMy version of its history: Capoeira originated incolonial Brazil in the 16th Century, in the midst of theAfrican slaves’ fight for FREEDOM from theirPortuguese captors.
  • 6. WHY LIBERDADE? A bit of Capoeira HistoryThe slaves used MUSIC and SONG to disguise theirpreparations to fight against their Portuguese captors.This is why it looks like a dance!
  • 7. WHY LIBERDADE? A bit of Capoeira HistoryThey say Capoeira literally means “TALL GRASS”. It issaid that this is where they practice and train.
  • 8. CAPOEIRA TODAY Fast Forward to 2012Since then, Capoeira has evolved into many differentforms and is practiced widely all throughout theworld. (Ex. Regional, Angola)
