200 times worse! The College of Fine Arts (COFA) proposal to use residential streets for truck movements has 200 times the impact of their original, approved plan.

• COFA breaks Greens Rd promise
• 71 houses within 52m
• noise & fumes 200 times worse
• truck movement every 9 minutes
• 2 hours per day traffic lockdown
2. COFA’s approved Development Application
cited the use of Greens Road for vehicle access
for the full extent of the redevelopment.
Appendix J of COFA’s Construction
Management Plan states that a 1.5 storey
1. COFA’s Development Application loading dock on Greens Road would be built
before demolition starts.
In 2010 COFA breaks this promise and wants
to use Albion Avenue and Selwyn Street for
truck movements.

and toxic waste) is attenuated according to the
inverse square of the distance from the source
(or 1/r2 )”.
The proposed access places 18 houses within
8m of truck movements. The impact on each
2a. Measuring the impact of these houses is 42.25 times greater than on
the 4 houses in the original, DA approved plan.
(calculation: [52/8] = 42.25)

Cumulatively, this is 190 times greater, because
there are 18 rather than 4 houses effected.
(calculation: 42.25 x [18/4] = 190)

6. The fallout for the whole area that falls inside
the 52m radius (as described in Diagram B) is
2b. Measuring the impact even higher – the impact is 212 times greater.
Noise, vibration, fumes, dust and toxic waste
effects are 212 times worse than the original
DA approved plan using Greens Road.

7. Frequency & duration
The proposed plan estimates up to 20 trucks
per day, in a 6 hr window (9am – 3pm).
20 trucks per day is 40 truck movements (entry
& exit). A truck every 9 minutes.
Assuming entry takes 2.5 min, & exit 3.5 min:
2c. Measuring the impact – 20 minutes of truck movements every hour,
– 2 hours of truck movements every day,
– 80 hours of continuous rumbling up and
down in front of heriatge houses over the 2
month demolition period.
Is 80 hours of noisy, vibrating, diesel
spewing truck movements sustainable?

9. UNSW runs courses in Corporate Social
Responsibility and Triple Bottom Line (TBL),
and have even held a CSR essay competition.
TBL demands responsibility to stakeholders
(anyone influenced by their actions).
The reputation of COFA, UNSW, and their
world ranked Graduate School of Management
4. COFA as toxic neighbour (AGSM) will be severly damaged. Their “social
legitimacy”, and therefore, their “license to
operate” will be seriously tainted.
Is COFA toxic? Their proposed plan to use
Albion Ave and Selwyn St is 200 times worse
than the original plan to use Greens Rd and is
clearly poor Corporate Citizenship.
