 Simple past
Use
• Things that are in the past and finished.
  E.g:
  - I dropped your camera. I’m sorry.
  - I met my husband in 1989.
• Form:
   – For irregular verbs, use the past form  2nd column
   – For regular verbs, add –ed
       EXCEPTIONS –ed
   – After a final “e” only add –d.
       E.g: love – loved
   – Final consonant after a short, stressed vowel or “l” as final consonant
       after a vowel is doubled.
       E.g: admit – admitted / travel – travelled
   – Final y after a consonant becomes “i”.
       E.g: hurry – hurried
Use
•   For negative and interrogative sentences  use auxiliary “do” in past DID.
•   Signal words:
     –   yesterday
     –   2 minutes ago
     –   in 1990
     –   the other day
     –   last Friday
     –   ...
Affirmative form
• Irregular verbs  2nd column
  E.g: - I am  I was
• Regular verbs  add –ed (pay attention to exceptions)
  E.g: - I play  I played
Negative form
• did not (subject + did not + verb infinitive (present) + ...)
  E.g: - I didn’t play football.
Interrogative form
• Did (Did + subject + verb infinitive (present) + ...?)
  E.g:
  - Did you ever play football?
  - Yes, I did. / No, I didn’t.
