The Application of Titanium Alloy Parts

What is Titanium Alloy?

Titanium is developed in 1950s, an important structural metal, titanium alloys have high
strength, good corrosion resistance and high heat resistance, now it is widely used in various
fields. Many countries in the world recognize the importance of the titanium alloy, and invest
great money in research and development of it, and it gets practical application. From the
1950s to 1960s of the 20th century, it mainly develops the aero-engine high temperature
titanium alloy and airframe structural titanium alloy, and in the 1970s, a number of corrosion-
resistant titanium alloy are developed, and since the 1980s, the corrosion resistance of
titanium alloy and high-strength titanium alloy has been further developed. Titanium alloy is
mainly used for the production of aircraft engine compressor components, followed by the
Precision Components of rockets, missiles and high-speed aircraft.

Properties and Uses of Titanium Alloy Part

Titanium Alloys has high strength and density, good mechanical properties and good
toughness and good corrosion resistance. What's more, the process performance of titanium
alloy is poor, it's difficult to cut, and it is very easy to absorb the impurities such as nitrogen
carbon hydroxide in the thermal processing. And its abrasion resistance is poor, the
production process is complex. Titanium alloy is mainly used for the production of aircraft
engine compressor components, followed by rockets, missiles and high-speed aircraft
structural parts. In the mid-1960s, titanium and its alloys in general industrial applications for
the production of electrode electrolysis industry, the condenser of the power plant, oil refinery
and desalination heater, as well as environmental pollution control device. Titanium and its
alloys has become a corrosion resistant structural material. In addition, it is also used for the
production of hydrogen storage materials and shape memory alloy.

Applications of Titanium Alloy in Aerospace Industry

Titanium alloy is a new important structural materials used in the aerospace industry, its
specific gravity, strength, and the use of the temperature range between aluminum and steel,
but it has a high specific strength and excellent corrosion resistance to seawater and ultra-
low temperature performance. Chinese started to study titanium alloy in 1956, titanium and
titanium alloys; industrial production and the development of the titanium material started in
the mid-1960s and titanium is developed into TB2 alloy. In 1950, it is first used on the F-84
fighter-bombers in U.S. The use of titanium alloy parts is in the 1960s and toward the
fuselage from the rear fuselage, and partly replaces the structural steel bulkheads, beams
and other important bearing components. The rapid increase in the amount of titanium alloys
in military aircraft, reach the 20% to 25% of the weight of the aircraft structure. In 1970s,
civilian aircraft began to extensively use titanium alloys.
