This 10-story gallery-garage displays
the work of 26 international artists
commissioned by Dan Gilbert, owner
of Bedrock Real Estate, working with
Library Street Collective.
3. Library Street Collective, located next to
The Z, commissioned artists from around
the world to participate, including:
- Detroit-based, REVOK
- Saner (Mexico City, Mexico)
- HOWNOSM (San Sebastian, Spain)
- Dabs & Myla (Melbourne, Australia)
- Hense (Atlanta, USA)
- Tristan Eaton (Los Angeles, USA)
- SMASH137 (Basel, Switzerland)
- Interesni Kazki (Kiev, Ukraine)
4. “The Z” could have been just another
utilitarian design in a city that needs new
infrastructure. But Dan Gilbert choose to
make the most of this opportunity to
reinforce Detroit’s image as a fascinating,
optimistic, human place. Also this venture
sends the message that creative
approaches are welcome here.
“The project pretty much encapsulates
the building that we’re in,” Anthony Curis
of the Library Street Collective has said.
“It’s a very non-traditional space, but
Detroit is a very non-traditional city.”
