Things Left To Do After House Painting

Homeowners that prefer to do the painting themselves or hire Marietta Painting Contractors
often encounter post painting problems. They may enjoy the job aesthetically but there are
unseen problems like annoying paint odors. It can be a big concern for your health,
especially to those with small children. This is the reason why wise homeowners research
volatile organic compounds, or the VOCs potential of the paint they buy. Low VOC paints
should be considered before painting or hiring a painting contractor.

The good news is that the evolution of house paint has come a long way with low VOC and
even odorless lines of paint. The bad news is there are still so many reasons to use the
smelly paints, especially if you're repainting an older home. Oil based paints are especially
effective in sealing water damage and old oil painted surfaces. These paints are good, but
also very smelly with potentially long-lasting vapors. The most common low VOC paints often
used today to repaint wood work can have a lingering odor for days even when properly
ventilated.

There are a few ways you can overcome these situations aside from ventilation to control
odors. One of which is to add a splash of vanilla. Before the low VOC paints were available in
market, Marietta Painting Contractors used vanilla extract to lower the odor. Now that low
VOC paints are commonly used, adding about a tablespoon of vanilla extract makes them
virtually odorless.

Before you paint, empty the room completely to make sure there is nothing that will trap the
odors and open all the windows before you open the paint cans and keep them open
throughout the entire painting session. If the house painting project is done and is too late for
prevention, simply absorbing the odors would be the best option especially if you are painting
in a closed interior. Using several bowls of onions is proven to work during and after painting.

When the painting is finished, seal and remove all paint cans, bag your drop sheets in plastic
before taking them out through the rest of the house to keep from spreading the fumes, Keep
the windows open and wait until the paint has fully dried before you replace the furniture and
other belongings.

Using some simple ideas and tips from your trusted expert House Painters combined with
some good common sense should produce a beautiful home with fresh, clean air for
everybody.
