The NSPCA deals with national animal welfare issues in South Africa. It has six operational units that focus on different areas like farm animals, wildlife, and research ethics. The NSPCA promotes the five freedoms for animal welfare: freedom from thirst and hunger, discomfort, pain, ability to express natural behaviors, and fear or distress. They get their message across through petitions, advertisements, handing out leaflets, and door-to-door campaigning. They protest in groups to have more influence than individuals alone. The NSPCA uses celebrity endorsements in their ads to appeal to more people. Some of the animals they have helped include chickens, baboons, cats, dogs, wolves, elephants.
