Jesus washes the disciples' feet to teach them humility and service. When Peter refuses, Jesus says that unless he is washed by Jesus, Peter cannot be his disciple. Later, Jesus predicts Peter will deny knowing him three times. After Jesus' resurrection, he asks Peter three times if he loves him, commanding Peter to feed and tend Jesus' sheep as a loving servant.
