           (Beck, 1992). This can also be related to
           the dominance hierarchies that exist among
           prisoners, sometimes referred to as a
           ‘prisoner caste system’ or ‘pecking order’.

           that they receive from their peers, will
           appear at the top of these hierarchies,
           whereas victims are stigmatised and appear
           at the bottom. Such hierarchies are an
           important element of the prisoner
           subculture, where paramount importance
           is attached to being able to dominate others
           if acceptance and status are to be gained
