Editor's Notes
The Innovation Partnership Report highlighted that there is a $36 billion productivity gain if small businesses utilise online services and fast broadband. The report also highlights that businesses who make more use of Internet are 6% more productive than the average firm in their industry. Higher using businesses can see a productivity gain of 73%.
· Grimes (2012), which is a New Zealand study concluded that firms with broadband are around 10% more productive than similar firms with dialup, with slightly bigger impacts indicated for rural than for urban firms.
· A survey research of 4,800 small and medium sized businesses across 12 countries by the McKinsey Global Institute (2011) reveals that those utilizing web technologies grew their revenues twice as fast as those with minimal use of web.
· MYOB (2011) says that businesses with a website report stronger actual and expected revenue and sales performance than those without website.
· Statistics NZ (2013) says that businesses that take online orders grow faster and export more
· Deloitte Access Economics (2013) found that SMEs that are highly digitally engaged have revenues around 20% higher than those that are less engaged.
· And IBM (2013) predicts increasing performance gaps in the future between firms that are well advanced in their digital strategies and those that are not.
Technology appears to be changing at an ever increasing rate and it can be difficult for businesses to understand the changes, let alone keep up.
These changes are completely altering how people connect, communicate and do business.
This one day workshop examines this intense period of digital change and how it is affecting New Zealand businesses. A facilitator will assist participants to understand the changes, recognise the threat to traditional business models, and provide them with the tools to develop an action plan which maximises the opportunities for their businesses.
