3. Text Platform Conventions.
Text is anything that is read, listened to or viewed.
Therefore some text conventions could be TV, radio
or even a poster or magazine.
That means that these can include headings, sub
headings, images with description and main text in
newspapers, a new report on the radio or even an
article in a magazine, as long as it involves words it
will be a text convention.
4. Genre Conventions.
Genre does not rely simply on what's in a media
text but also on the way it is constructed.
For example the genre conventions of a horror film
would be;
- Dark lighting
- Good versus evil
- A monster/killer who has a certain way of killing people or things
- Tension
- Suspense
These generally outline what is included in a horror film will look like
and generally how the story line will go.
6. Magazine 1
This magazine includes a masthead, a
picture, the school logo, some articles
that are inside but it’s too hard on
your eyes with all the green. The
school logo shows that the schools
colour is green and therefore they
have used green on the magazine but
there is too much green. The picture is
relatively pretty good as it shows a
stereotypical student holding books
and folders but by showing her as a
‘model’ student is a sort of lie because
in the background it shows another
person, possibly a student, wearing
much more casual wear. The magazine
is also a bit too busy and doesn’t really
involve anything about the school
itself.
7. Magazine 2
This magazine is too hard to read with
the yellow text, this magazine involves
school articles and also pictures and a
masthead. It doesn’t include the
school logo what so ever and also isn’t
very enticing.
8. Magazine 3
This is my favourite magazine out of
them all because it is basic and
represents the school theme of things;
it shows the masthead it also shows
the school logo and a picture. The
picture itself is really clear and has
been edited to make the sharpener
stand out of the page with the blurred
background. The colour scheme is
really simple and doesn’t use the
school logo colour at all. The text is
easy to read and represents the
magazine as being sophisticated.
9. Magazine 4
This magazine cover isn’t very clear
but is seems like a pretty good school
magazine cover. It has a
masthead, pictures, articles examples
and also the date. The picture depicts
a student studying and the smaller
thumbnails show the students learning
but have been edited with a slight blue
over the top to match the magazine.
The main image hasn’t been fully
cropped because you can see under
her arm is a chair leg. The blue stands
out and the text is easy to read as it is
white on a dark blue background, the
masthead is in a clear red font to allow
it to stand out and the vary in text
colour is also effective and allows the
reader to read it and notice change
and also causes them not to get bored.
10. Survey.
I made a survey in order to get
peoples opinions on the 4
magazine covers above, I have
emailed it to peers in my year
This is my group to get their opinions, this will
survey allow me to see which ones are the
more preferred magazine covers
and will therefore allow me to
gather ideas for my magazine
layout and design.
This was the email I sent to my peers.
11. Survey Results.
My Survey showed that magazine cover 3 (The
Loyalite) was the most favourite as it was easy
to read, had a nice basic colour scheme and just
generally had a nice flow to it. It also fitted its
theme. The least favourites were magazine 1
(SMS) and 2 (WELCOME) because they were too
busy and the text was hard to read. Although they did
fit the themes my audience preferred cover 3 as it was
just easy to read and they could relate to it much
better.
