2. 3) What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
BBC Magazines is a media institution that I believe would be suitable
and beneficial to produce the pop music magazine that I have created.
The reason I think that this would be the most appropriate is because
they are the producers of the most successful UK pop music magazine
'Top of the Pops' which I looked at for my case study. BBC Magazines
have also distributed another magazine called ‘Mix Mag’ which not a
pop magazine but it is a dance magazine which is still similar. However,
the fact that they already publish a magazine of the same genre, I don’t
think that it would be possible even though BBC Magazines has a lot of
successful experience in distributing music magazines.
EMAP Bauer Media Group and IPC Media have the highest rates of
success in distributing the most successful music magazines. The genre
the produce for is nothing similar to my chosen genre of pop so it would
seem like a good and be suitable idea for them to produce my magazine
because even though BBC Magazines is more specialised in what I am
looking for, they would be the best option because they already
produce a similar magazine. There is a gap in the market for pop music
magazines in EMAP Bauer, therefore it would be highly recommended
and beneficial for my magazine. With my magazine they can target a
3. 4) Who would be the audience for your
media product?
The audience for my magazine would be females from the ages 11 – 17 from all
ethnicities. The reason for this is because the fan bases of pop artists fall under this
category so they would be most interested as to what my magazine has to offer. The
socio economic group would be middle class as it is a happy medium between lower
and upper class. Therefore it would appeal to a wider audience. Also it is not priced to
high and is generous and affordable for all. The lifestyle of the audience of this
magazine would be individuals who are up to date with the latest gossip and has
interests in the latest trends and styles and have a passion for pop music. As I fall
under this category I believe I included what would appeal that audience.
A typical girl would be a student in high school who
dresses in the latest fashion, perhaps colour coding
her outfits and wearing matching patterns. She
would also have hair accessories to go with her
clothes, jewellery and a hang bag. She would like to
shop in places such as New Look, River Island and
Zara. Also in her spare time she would like to hang
out with friends in places such as Westfield, go to
the cinema, and hang out in the park during
summer etc.
4. 5) How did you attract/address your
audience?
The features on my magazine are mainly males so instantly females are attracted to
the magazine. Also the males are all teenagers so this is what prevents older
females from purchasing the magazine which is why my audience is 11- 17 years of
age. Also teenage girls are always seeking for the latest trends so I added a female
model/singer in the magazine with the role of an inspiration for the readers and be
the next trend setter. The fact that there is direct address on the front cover image
instantly engages the audience.
The font I used to write the magazine is not the average boring Times New Roman, I
switched it up a bit and made it more quirky and brings life to the magazine to
attract and draw young and lively girls who are all about things that look
presentable and pretty.
Looking back at the feedback I got from my audience was that the selection of
photography that I had was really good and relevant. Also they said they really liked
the fact that my pull quote connoted the image on my double page spread.
