A Response to Redundancy - Better West Midlands, Redundancy in Birmingham talks about how Better west Midlands helps people before they become redundant. We make sure that people have the skills that they need to either keep away from redundancy or have the skills to find a new job when they have to. Better West Midlands aims to improve peoples lives and make sure that redundancy stays at a low and decreases in the west midlands and that people have the skills that they need to find and/or stay in employment. It also means that when people are out of employment they are already prepared with skills that they need without having to spend a longtime unemployed and re-training.

  •  Continuing economic decline and company restructuring  Some work being exported abroad  Continuing job losses  Low self esteem low aspirations for the future  We wanted to find a way forward
  •  Assist people who are directly employed by a company and live or work in the West Midlands area.  Potential clients must have a letter of redundancy or a formal at “risk letter” from the employer.  Will be seeking full or part time work after redundancy.  Must be aged 18 years or over and not in full time education.
  •  Training will be a maximum 75 hours  CV Development  Interview Techniques  Support with Essential Skills  ESOL  IT Skills Development  Apprenticeships  Referral to partner organisations  Job search support
  •  Training may include assistance with business start up.  Business planning  Business forecasts  Using Technology for Marketing  Assessing and delivering marketing plans  Identifying potential customers  How to deal with taxes and other such matters
  •  Targeting people who are affected by redundancy at an early stage before you become unemployed.  Confidential one to one matrix accredited Advice and Guidance.  Formulating an action plan identifying training or up skilling needs.  Free Training.  Referrals to specialist help.  Support in advance and after redundancy.
