5. ROSA PARKS
 On December 1, 1955 Rosa Parks, an African -American woman
boarded a bus in Montgomery, Alabama.
 She sat in the middle section of the bus, closest to the front, reserved
for the “whites” only.
 As soon as their seats filled, and more white men boarded the bus, the
bus driver insisted that she and the other African -American people
retreat to the back of the bus.
 She refused and was arrested.

6. BOYCOTT
 Led 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott
as a result of the arrest of Rosa
Parks for refusing to give up her
seat.
 Martin Luther King Jr.and all other
African- Americans refused to ride
on the buses. Instead they walked
or put together carpools.
 This boycott lasted 13 months.
