- Robin williams – Suicide – Good bye video – 24 millioin views – Seeing all these negative ripples, what should we do? What would you do? Stop using OSM? I am not sure. Solutions and technolgoeis are built to help. Positive should be more than negative ripples. Users should be informed and be able to make informed decisions. Humanity – working on this from early days of mankind When Robin Williams passed away, there were many videos which were floating on OSM which seemed as though he was saying good bye to his fans. when clicked it would take the user to a malicious page where users were asked to perform some actions before viewing the content and the video was being shared on ones FB timeline, before watching the video. This video was shared 24 million times. Seeing all these negative side of OSM, what should my friends do? Should they quit OSM? I am not sure! Situation probably is not that bad, there are solutions that have been built to help OSM users make better decisions and be safe online. OSM has been having a positive ripple effect, however the negative ripple effects should not deter the users from using it. Users should be well informed about the tradeoffs. Humanity is progressing in addressing some of these problems in various form from the early days of mankind, it is just that the forms have changed.
