Expatriate Training and Development.
In order to compete successfully in a Global market more firms are focusing on the role of human resources as a critical part of their core competence and source of competitive advantage. Human Resource refers to the stock of accumulated knowledge, skills and abilities that a individual possesses which the firm has built up over time into an identifiable expertise.
A number of multinationals have established their schools or universities :Motorola,disney etc for in-house training centers. One of the reason for international assignment is management development,job rotation . It is a way for employees to gain a broader perspective
It assists in developing capable people who form the required pool of global operations.
Role of Expatriate Training. The focus of the training is on creating Cultural Awareness. Effective cultural training assists individuals to adjust more rapidly to the new culture. It helps people to cope with unexpected events in a new culture. Previously MNC’S placed less priority on providing pre-departure training for the spouse and family.
Components of Pre-Departure Training. 1)Cultural awareness Programme. 2)Preliminary Visits. 3)Language Training (HC Language skills). 4)Practical assistance (Repatriates).
