Puerto Galera on the island of Mindoro in the Philippines has a tropical climate with temperatures between 27-30°C. It experiences typhoons between June and October. The area has diverse flora like the fragrant white plumeria and erect shrub pandakaki that are used as anti-inflammatories. The largest native palm is the fan-leaved buri fruit tree. Fauna includes the blue and white sea slug that feeds on sponges, the venomous and camouflaged lionfish that hunts prey rapidly, and the thorny seahorse where males give birth in the western Pacific among soft corals.
