  • 38. The Super Power of Chastity Never Gonna
  • 39. Super Power Summary Chastity Teaches Us How To: • Integrate the will, emotions, and attractions. • Long for the others‟ good, before our own. • See the unrepeatability of the person. • Redeem our sexual attraction. Instead of desiring to use or acquire, we desire to genuflect. • View each person as a mystery. Not a commodity or a combination of attributes and qualities that exist to aid in our “pleasure”, “satisfaction” or “good”. OLOP|YA YOUNG ADULTS Freedom to Love 39
  • 40. The Value of the Person "The essence of chastity consists in quickness to affirm the value of the human person in every situation. And, in raising to the personal level all of our reactions to that person's body and sexuality. … rather it is a matter of sustained and long term integration, so that our attraction to a person's body and sex is grounded and integrated in the value of the person.” OLOP|YA YOUNG ADULTS Freedom to Love 40
  • 41. Apprenticeship in Self-mastery “Chastity includes an apprenticeship in self-mastery which is a training in human freedom. The alternative is clear: either man governs his passions and finds peace, or he lets himself be dominated by them.. Self-mastery is a long and exacting work. One can never consider it acquired once and for all. It presupposes renewed effort at all stages of life.” CCC 2342 OLOP|YA YOUNG ADULTS Freedom to Love 41
  • 42. Actuals of Grace “Lord, Jesus Christ, through your death and resurrection you have redeemed man and breathed new life into the dust of his humanity. Take my lustful desires and wash them clean by the Blood and Water which flows from Your Sacred Heart. Make my heart all pure. Allow me to desire to genuflect to this man or this woman. Grant me the grace to refuse to view them as a “good” for myself. O Blood and water which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of Mercy for us, I trust in You.” OLOP|YA YOUNG ADULTS Freedom to Love 42
  • 43. Love and the Unrepeatability of the Person Me for Me
  • 44. Mature Love Love reaches maturity when it turns from how the other person makes me feel, to who the other person is. OLOP|YA YOUNG ADULTS Freedom to Love 44
  • 45. Qualities are Transitional Qualities and attributes of a person, if your love stops there, offer absolutely no permanent foundation. These things are transitional, and they are repeatable.
