This document summarizes information about global copper projects from a presentation by Intierra Resource Intelligence. It finds that the number of copper exploration projects increased 40% from January to June 2010 compared to the same period in 2011. Most copper projects are in the early exploration stage, similar to gold projects. The presentation also examines copper project pipelines and drilling by stage from 2011.

Editor's Notes
Demand: historically who and what has consumed copper and where will demand come from in the future Project Pipeline: are there enough projects to fill the supply chain Market Balances and Prices: what does supply and demand look like moving through 2020 and what will the future copper price be?
Firstly lets talk about top 10 commodities by global projects. This chart shows the distribution of commodities by active projects in the Intierra universe. Gold is and always has been the most explored /mined commodity. Copper is securely in second place
Intierra data base has information on all of these individual projects Map shows the location of all grass roots projects in the Intierra data base with a copper component. Copper can be the primary or secondary commodity being explored for. Grass roots has no drilling Notice the copper belts (areas of activities) being outlined
Exploration projects have limited drilling
Advanced exploration projects have significant drilling and usually have a resource attached to them
Notice as is the case with an exploration pipeline, as we move through the exploration process, the number of projects decrease
All of the data behind these projects is in our new Feasibilty module
This map shows the distribution of operating Copper mines by country
This chart shows the number of projects in the Intierra data base for which copper results were announced to the financial markets. In comparing the 1 st half of 2010 and 2011 we see there was an increase of over 40% in the number of projects that announced copper drill assay results. This compares with gold that showed an increase of only 29% And Uranium which showed a decrease of 24%
This map show the location of the drilling projects globally that announced copper assay results to the financial markets in the first half of 2011
An important aspect of the drilling projects is the status. What types of projects are companies drilling . From the above chart we see that 44% of the projects that were drilled for copper in 2010 were at the exploration stage. This indicates that companies were drilling to outline a copper resource, therefore advancing the project to the advanced exploration stage. This is important because projects are being acquired at an earlier exploration stage than they have in the past. The next most active stage was advanced exploration where companies are trying to finalize a resource so the can advance to the pre-feasibility/scoping stage.
We start off by looking at gold as a comparison. Previously we saw gold was the most active commodity for exploration. For our pipeline comparison, we have divided the projects into early stage and late stage. Early stage is grass roots and exploration. Late stage is advanced exploration, pre-feasibility/scoping, feasibility and construction. In this chart early stage projects comprise 67% or 2/3 of all active projects in the Intierra database. Late stage projects account for 1/3 This is a healthy pipeline as many early stage projects are required to feed the exploration pipeline.
We can see that copper is similar to gold in the comparison of early to late stage projects. Gold has many more projects, but there is still the healthy 2/3 to 1/3 ratio between early and late stage projects. 69% of all projects with copper as a primary or secondary commodity have had little to no drilling on them.
Let’s examine the project pipeline for these 8 commodities. 6 of the 8 have healthy pipelines However we can see that both uranium and diamonds are in trouble . Uranium only has 16% of all global projects in the advanced stage. We know this is because for years there was no exploration for uranium as companies were not able to raise capital. Once uranium starts another renaissance, there will be a shortage of projects at the advanced stage. These are projects with resources.
Now let’s turn our attention to future production This slide shows the proposed production of new mines that will be coming on stream in the next 6 years These are projects that are at the feasibility or construction stage. We can see that 2012 and 2014 will be significant years for increased copper production. The last two columns on the right show the reserves of the mines and the average grade
