2. DEFINETION OF POLLUTION
๏ WHEN HARMFUL SUBSTANCES
CONTAMINATE THE ENVIRONMENT IT IS
CALLED POLLUTION
๏ POLLUTION REFERS TO VERY BAD
CONDITION OF ENVIRONMENT IN TERMS
OF QUALITY AND QUANTITY
4. WHAT IS ATMOSPHERE
๏ ATMOSPHERE IS THE LIFE BLANKET OF
EARTH
๏ IT IS THEREFORE ESSENTIAL THAT WE
KNOW ABOUT THE ATMOSPHERE AND
THE WAYS IN WHICH IT IS POLLUTED
5. CAUSES OF AIR POLLUTION
๏ MAJOR SOURCES
OF AIR POLLUTION
๏ INDUSTRIES
๏ AUTOMOBILES
๏ HIGH PROPORTION
OF UDESIRABLE
GASES SUCH AS
CARBON DIOXIDE
ETC
6. EFFECTS OF AIR POLLUTION
๏ AIR POLLUTION
EFFECTS ??
๏ HUMAN HEALTH
๏ ANIMALS
๏ PLANTS
๏ THE ATMOSPHERE
AS A WHOLE
๏ OZONE DEPLETION
๏ ACID RAIN
7. OZONE DEPLETION
๏ Ozone layer depletion, is simply the wearing out
(reduction) of the amount of ozone in the
stratosphere. Unlike pollution, which has many types
and causes, Ozone depletion has been pinned down
to one major human activity.
Industries that manufacture things like insulating
foams, solvents, soaps, cooling things like Air
Conditioners, Refrigerators and โTake-Awayโ
containers use something called chlorofluorocarbons
(CFCs). These substances are heavier than air, but
over time, (2-5years) they are carried high into the
stratosphere by wind action. Depletion begins when
CFCโs get into the stratosphere
8. ACID RAIN
๏ Acid rain is rainfall that has been
acidified. Rain is acidified by
oxides of sulfur and nitrogen. Acid
rain usually has a pH of less than
5.6. Acid rain is formed when
pollutants called oxides of sulfur
and nitrogen, contained in power
plant smoke, factory smoke, and
car exhaust, react with the
moisture in the atmosphere. Dry
deposition, such as soot and ash,
sleet, hail, snow, smog and low
level ozone are forms that acid
rain can take, despite its name.
9. HOW TO AVOID AIR POLLUTION
๏ YES WE CAN AVOID
POLLUTION AS
FOLLOWS
๏ USE NATURAL GASES
LIKE LPG
๏ DO NOT BURST
CRACKERS
๏ USE OF PUBLIC
TRANSPORT
10. WHAT IS WATER POLLUTION
๏
THE CONTAINATION OF WATER WITH
UDESIRABLE SUBSTANCES WHICH
MAKES IT UNFIT FOR USAGE IS TERMED
AS WATER POLLUTION
11. CAUSES OF WATER POLLUTION
๏ ABOUT 40% OF DEATH WORLD WIDE
ARE CAUSED BY WATER POLLUTION
๏ WATER POLLUTION IS CAUSED BY
INDUSTRIAL WASTES AND AFFLUENT
DISCHARGE INTO RIVERS
12. EFFECTS OF WATER POLLUTION
๏ DISEASES LIKE CHOLERA
๏ MALARIA
๏ TYPHOID
๏ AQUATIC LIFE GETS DESTROYED
13. HOW TO AVOID WATER POLLUTION
๏ RIVERS SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR
WASHING CLOTHES OR BATHING
ANIMALS IN.
๏ HARVESTING OF WATER TO MEET
WATER REQUIREMENTS
๏ LIQUID INDUSTRIAL WASTE TO BE
TREATED PROPERLY
๏ NO GARBAGE SHOULD BE DISPOSED IN
WATER BODIES
