ANTH 410
Cover Letter for Annotated Bibliography
This letter is intended to describe in some detail the reasons why I included these
resources in my personal/career bibliography. A caveat is required at this point because some
of the resources I included are not works of Anthropology or academic. I qualify these works
because some of them are equal in personal-held importance in the ways I conduct myself
professionally as an Anthropologist and Archaeologist. I find these works in my bibliography to
be representative of me as an Anthropologist because they are a selection of readings that have
influenced me or lingered in my consciousness and memory as being crucial talking points,
theories, and relevant knowledge to living in this era and practicing a career as an
anthropologist. Boas, Bourdieu, and Foucault provide me with theoretical background and
knowledge, albeit if I use some of their examples as antitheses. With the same idea for
background I included Shibayama, Vonnegut, Marx and Engels, both because these authors are
crucial for my opinion and persona as well as crucial for how I strive to act and interact in the
field of Anthropology. Many of the other works I included to provide materials that question
and discuss the segmentation and separation we humans create through the act of
identification, whether between different names, different item types, or different cultures.
Further resources included are academic references to the laws and practices regarding CRM as
well as academic resources describing Native American cultures in detail. I included both
historical and recent developments in the fields of Anthropology and Archaeology because I try
to remain rooted firmly in an understanding of what preceded me in the fields of anthropology
and archaeology as was as in history in general.
