Volcanic effects are usually temporary, ranging from volcanic haze lingering for a few days after small eruptions to global temperature changes for a few years from large eruptions injecting sulfuric acid into the stratosphere. However, prehistoric super eruptions may have occurred that were so large their climactic effects could appear permanent even if they only persisted 10-20 years.
