a TEDx conference on 19th of February, 2012.

What is TED?
TED – (Technology, Entertainment and Design)
is a conference that has been running since 1990
in Monterey, California and now shifted to
Long Beach, California. TED is a nonprofit
organization devoted to “Ideas worth
Spreading”. The annual TED Conference invites
the world’s leading Thinkers and doers to speak
for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made
available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have
included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall,
Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan
Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala,
Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon

What is TEDx ?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has
created a program called TEDx which is a program of
local, self-organized events that bring people together
to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called
TEDxBITSGoa, where x=independently organized TED
event. This year at our TEDxBITSGoa event, with the
theme “This is My Story”, TEDTalks video and live
speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and
connection in a small group.
What is TEDxBITSGoa?
TEDxBITSGoa is an exceptional platform for
outstanding individuals to increase the awareness of
their work, devoting their time to challenge
paradigms, adding value to the society while learning
from each other in an interactive and fun way. In the
3rd
year since its inception now, TEDxBITSGoa has
grown from its humble origins to be one of the most
awaited conferences of its kind in the region. This
year, the TEDxBITSGoa Team organizes this powerful
initiative in Goa with the main theme “This is My
Story.” The event will witness some powerful
performances and speeches by some of the best and
brightest personalities of the country. We are
currently in talks with: Actor Naseerudin Shah,
Socialists Kiran Bedi, well-known tech-expert Ankit
Fadia, economist and Nobel laureate Amartya Sen,
musician Raghu Dixit and many more. Please refer

TEDxBITSGoa.

Highlights of
TEDxBITSGoa 2011:
TEDxBITSGoa 2011 in its second edition
witnessed a lot of exceptional journeys, award
winning ideas and breath-taking talks by some
great innovators. Mesmerizing performances
included speakers like Subir Gokarn- Deputy
Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Tabla
Virtuoso Anuradha Pal, Sunil Mukhi-Physicist,
Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR),
renowned Wildlife Photographer Kalyan Varma

TEDxBITSGoa 2011 was a huge success with the
event being broadcasted live across the internet
as a webcast. In fact, it was so popular that our
webcast slots of 1,000 people were filled up
entirely within the first 20 minutes of the
conference.

Attendees: A footfall of 2000 which ranged a
diversity of people from all aspects of profession and
education was observed in TEDxBITSGoa 2011. With
a better line-up of speakers, we definitely expect a
marginal increase this year.
Transportation: The BITS - Pilani, K. K. Birla
Goa Campus, is about 10 kms south of Vasco-da-
Gama, 20 kms north of Margaon and 5 kms east of
Goa Airport, along National Highway – 17B, Bye-pass
road. As such, the campus is well connected via bus
