2. The challenge for anyone who wants to
quit alcohol addiction is how to
maintain sobriety over a period of time.
Based on my experience, I've put
together a few points that might help
someone with Alcohol Addiction.
3. 1. Keep occupied. It really doesn't matter
what it is, but set yourself a plan, a
target for the day, or some KPI's
(key performance indicators). If you
begin a day without a plan it will end in a
mess.
2. Keep a diary. Don't have to write a full
length blog post daily, just a line or two
about how you're feeling about alcohol
addiction. You'll be surprised at how
therapeutic that is.
4. 3. Never go beyond one day at a time.
You'll not be able to face it. Just focus on
the present and get through the day. I've
been doing that for 13 years, and I can
say, humbly, that it works.
4. Keep fit. I don't mean you have to
enrol in a gym membership, although
that's your choice. Talk a walk daily, 30
minutes if possible. It'll help the healing
process and is an invaluable periods of
solitude.
5. 5. Eat healthily. Good diet is something
that is foreign to an alcoholic, and you'll
really feel the benefits of good nutritious
food.
6. Don't brood on the fact you can't drink
when all your mates still do. It'll promote
negativity and resentment. Focus on the
fact that you can still enjoy evenings out
without alcohol, and that you're fully in
control.
6. 7. Don't replace one obsession or
addiction with another. Although keeping
occupied, see point 1, don't let it
overtake you. An alcoholic is usually an
obsessive, and your mind will look for
some other form of gratification.
8. Don't take a drink, ever.... If you think
you will take the risk, I can tell you it will
be disaster. Your only choice is not to
have the first one.
7. 9. Do something for somebody else. The
best occupation, and an antidote to years
of selfishness during your alcohol
addiction.
10. Don't despair. It is possible to
overcome for ever, and you should cry to
God every day for His power and grace
to sustain you through one more day.
