  • 2. History of WIPRO
    • WIPRO stands for Western India Vegetable Products Company was establish in early 1950s.
    • The core business was to manufacture and market of vegetable cooking oil.
    • Azim Premji took the command of WIPRO in 1966 from his father, Mr. Hasham Premji.
    • WIPRO jump into hardware business in 1981 and in software business in 1984.
  • 3. Journey of WIPRO : Local to Global
    • 1945 : Incorporation of Western India vegetable Products Limited.
    • 1947 : An oil mill & hydrogenated cooking medium plant set up.
    • 1966 : Azim Premji takes over the leadership of Wipro at the age of 21.
    • 1975 : Wipro fluid power set up to manufacture hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders.
    • 1977 : Name of the company change to Wipro Products Limited.
    • 1980 : Information technology services for domestic market started.
    • 1981 : Hardware company launched.
    • 1982 : Name of the company change to Wipro Limited.

    • 1992: Wipro goes global with IT Service Division.
    • 1993: Business Innovation Award for Offshore Development
    • 1995: Wipro gets ISO 9001 Quality Certification, Recertified twice for mature processes.
    • 1997: Wipro gets SEI (Software Engineering Institute) CMM (Capability Maturity Model) Level 3 certification.
    • 1998: Landmark Achievement: Wipro First software company in the world to get SEI CMM Level 5 certification.
    • 1999: Wipro’s Market Capitalization in India beats every other company.

    • 2007: Wipro acquires US's Infocrossing for 600mn
