Agenda What is the STaR Chart Definition Why we have the StaR Chart Our Campus Strengths Weaknesses State Summary
What is the Star Chart? School Technology and Readiness A Teacher Tool for Planning and Self-Assessing aligned with the Long-Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2010 STaR Chart Website
Definition An online resource tool for self-assessment of your campus’ and district’s efforts to effectively integrate technology across the curriculum. Texas STaR Chart. Instructional Materials and Education Technology Division. Texas Education Agency.
Why do we have the star chart To show the state how well districts are meeting the goals of the Technology Long Range Plan To help districts budget and plan for their technology needs To help administrators to see strengths and weaknesses on their campus’ and to plan accordingly
Strengths Infrastructure for Technology is our strongest area (Advanced Tech). The district is improving and getting the teachers the technology they need for the infrastructure. The district is giving us the technical support that we are needing. The district is making sure that there is internet access in all rooms. The district is working to make sure the network is working.
Weaknesses The weakest area is Educator Preparation and Development(Developing Tech). We are not giving teachers enough staff development over technology. Teachers use technology all the time, but they do not know how to integrate it into their curriculum and instruction. We are not having anyone model lessons in technology to the level that would be able to go their day to day teaching. Our teachers can do the basics, but their understanding stops there. They need to be given more opportunities to dig deeper.
Summary We are in the advanced stage in all areas but one. We are ahead of most of the districts in the state. The state is in the developing stage in all the areas. We have areas to work on, but overall we are on track.
