2. Todd
Laurence
Austin
Todd Laurence Austin is a
talented designer who works with
furniture, art, and conceptual
architecture. One look at Austin’s
gorgeous work would be enough
to convince anyone that he
needed to be the one working on
a project.
3. His Story
He was a machine gunner in the
Marine Corps, stationed mostly in
California. He did, however, tour
in Iraq in 2003. After that, he
started working to build homes
for the most part, until he found
himself working with the sculptor
David Boyajian.
4. His Story
Boyajian helped Todd put his
portfolio together to go back to
school and study sculpting
(although he switched his major
to architecture) He graduated
with degrees in fine art and
architecture, and started selling
things on a small level.
5. His Story
Of course, with that talent, his
projects became bigger and
bigger until they got to where
they are today. He now ships all
over the country. He is truly a
jack of all trades, well rounded as
a physical theorist, and makes
sure to keep himself well-
rounded, as he dabbles in all
things creative.
7. Todd and I
Todd and I have known each
other since we were 10 years old,
believe it or not. We grew up in
the same place, went to camp
together in the summers, and
hung out after school in our
skateboarding days. Since then, I
have grown into being a chef and
he has become an accomplished
artist. When I wanted someone to
design custom furniture for my
project, I knew he would be
perfect for the job.
8. My Vision
I approached Todd to build some
seating for the project that
coincided with my overarching
love of Japanese food and
culture.
9. The Results
He ended up designing these
beautiful park-style benches with
Japanese influence. They are live
edge benches with traditional
joinery, for the most part, made
out of maple and some black
walnut, all with tweaks that show
they were stylized after Japanese
architecture. I am beyond excited
to unveil these at the release of
my new project.
