We all know monitoring and performance are an incredibly important aspect of web development, but they're also an important part of daily life. As a Type 1 Diabetic, this proves to be even more of a pressing topic for me. Luckily I have a companion to help me out. But what about the rest of you?
About Me
- community manager and builder
- love indoor skydiving
- from SF
- definitively not someone who looks like they "need" a service dog.
- ironically, I have a service dog who doesn't look like a service dog.
But let’s back up a second… Here’s a picture of me from when I was 3. I’ve got the cute striped kitty dress, awesome pigtails, and a medic alert bracelet that identifies me as a Type 1 Diabetic.
There are a lot of misconceptions about diabetes, which makes sense, given that only 5% of the 29 million Americans who have diabetes are Type 1 Diabetics. The hard thing is… Type 1 is very different from Type 2, which is very different from gestational diabetes.
In short, Type 1 is a chronic, auto-immune disease. It’s not caused by eating too much sugar or not exercising, and it can’t be cured by diet and exercise either. While it is treatable, there is no cure. And the treatment is indepth… the picture on the left is of the supplies I carry with me on the regular basis. The one on the right is the devices I wear on a regular basis.
