porcelain and ceramic tile installation, though in some cases thin-set
will work. Mud-set is the term used for a sand and cement mixture that
provides a level, water-resistant and stable base for tile.
Mud-set method:
Step 1 Floor surface is cleaned and covered with tar paper and wire
mesh, stapled in place.
Step 2 The mud-set is poured and leveled.
Step 3 Mud-set is left to dry for 24 hours prior to tile installation.

8. Thin-Set Method:
Step 1 Layout is established and guidelines are set.
Step 2 The thin-set is applied with the smooth side of the trowel and
then combed.
Step 3 The first tile is applied, spacers are set in place, and the
pattern is continued.
Step 4 Dried thin-set is hard to remove so tiles are cleaned
throughout the installation.
Step 5 When installation is complete, the grout is applied and tiles
are rinsed to remove grout glaze.
