Given various instructional materials ( textbook, atlas, online resources)
students will illustrate through a visual presentation by use of
powerpoint , the causes of the American Revolution and the Reasons
why America won the American revolution in spite of being at a disadvantage.
Students will illustrate within 75% accuracy
Intended Audience: General Education 5th grade Students.
Objectives
Students will determine in miles the distance between Colonial Massachussetts and England
within an 80 % accuracy measurement ( 2 45 minute block)
Given a list of events from the time period of 1757 to 1776 students will create and label a timeline of causes
of the American Revolution and accurately place each event in the correct chronological order(45 mn )
Given historical research materials students will create a list of 5 – 6 advantages that each side has in the
American revolution and determine has the overall advantage ( 3 45 minute blocks)
Given a textbook and a list of dates and major battles students will determine and label the battle that began
the war, the battle that was a turning point and the battle that ended the war. ( 3 45 minute blocks)
Given online resources and various instructional material students will list four reasons why the United States
was victorious in the American Revolution within 75% accuracy (2 45 minute block)

Emphasis on this objective about how far England is from the colonies, giving the

3. Objective 2

Students will line up in groups of five according to their birthdays In ascending order.
Utilizing Flash cards student will be given cards with events that take place during the school
year ( Christmas break, Thanksgiving, winter recess , First day of Spring, etc) with no dates
and students will arrange the cards in the correct chronological order to the best of their
ability working in groups.

colonist Reasons to believe in the cause they were fighting for promoting Patriotism
4. Objective 3

has in the American revolution and determine which side has the overall advantage.

onset of the war and give at least 3 reasons explaining why that side has the advantage.
Emphasis on this objective is to show how the events that led to the American revolution gave
the colonist Reasons to believe in the cause they were fighting for promoting Patriotism and
how help from the French was essential in the Patriot cause.

beginning, turning point and deciding points (all three battles ) of the American
revolution.
Emphasis on this objective is how leadership was evident in the American Revolution.
Battles are not won without proper leadership and how the turning point battle gave the
ameriacans crucial Foreign help.

Challenges:
Focusing on the perspective outside of the content. The
Teacher in me wants to instruct and is very content-
centric.
