Dus ka Dum
Because we grow a little,
everyday
Why GGIS started with it
• As teachers we ended up discussing only
about our classes
• Professional Development days were few
and again aimed at getting better at
classroom
• But our teachers had to grow as individuals
to be better teachers
• We had to be better at dinner conversations
• And so we started with Dus ka Dum
What is Dus ka Dum (DkD)
• It is 10 minutes of our time everyday that
we spend on learning something new or
just exploring a different avenue
• Yup! Just that. 10 minutes of newness 
• A few things we have tried….
Origami:
Making
windmills
• This was our first DkD.
• We had no idea why we were all getting
together
• But the time limit of 10 minutes put us to a
frantic learning pace
• More than the windmill, we learnt how to
read origami instructions
• And surprisingly, the so called art and craft
teachers took much longer than others!
Playing
football
• It was the football world cup time
• And we ladies didn’t know a word about it!
• But after those 10 minutes we could go
home and brag to our hubbies about a few
world cup facts
Learning to
code
• Coding! Oh not happening. It is for the
geeks
• But we tried it and it was nothing but just
thinking.
• We loved it and 10 minutes were a tad too
less
• Eeeehawwww was the sound that
reverberated all through the room
everytime we crossed a level
And many more things we
tried…
• Heard Parvati Baol’s music
• Understood what Kickstarter is
• Found out that people are making a 3D
make-up printers!
• Shared jokes and riddles
• Spoke of one conflict we face in our life
But …only one person?
• So far it was mostly Minal heading DkD
• But there is only a little one person can do
• So we started involving others to share
their skills
• And so we had…..
Quick and
easy hair-dos
by Roopali
Ma’am
• Roopali Ma’am is a jack of many trades.
• And her past experience of working as a
make-up artist is something we wanted to
benefit from
• She gladly shared some easy-peasy
techniques of hair-dos that don’t require a
lot to do
Learning Spanish from Yeliza
Ola!
• Yeliza is a Colombian who is trying hard to
learn Hindi
• And when she volunteered to share some
of her Spanish lessons, we went
eeehawwwww
• What fun we had speaking in a new
language….. Silly but highly exciting
The road ahead...
• We know not!
• But we have taken a road less traveled and
how proud we are
• It may last a month or a term or forever, it
does not matter
• We shared our learning. We enjoyed what
did
One key lesson learnt
• Nothing, just nothing beats the high
adrenaline we get out of learning a new
thing.
Thank You
