2. So why is Final Cut different from iMovie? Basically, iMovie is great if you want to create pretty basic, small short sequences. It’s great as a starting point, but if you want to really layer sound and clips to a higher standard, this is where Final Cut is better. Final Cut gives you a lot more flexibility, you can work with multiple layers of sound and video, and there are far more effects you can add. It is also better if you want to do precision editing. iMovie is much better if you just want to quickly mix together your clips though.
3. Really though, the interface on Final Cut is much more developed and more complex then iMovie is. The interface is mainly as to why Final Cut is much more preferred, In the iMovie timeline, only five of the six clips are fully visible, and there's absolutely no sense of time in the timeline, other than knowing the total length of the project. In the Final Cut Express timeline, the clips are clearly laid out over a time line, so you can not only see total time, but also the duration of each clip. You can also see all six clips in full, and the entire timeline takes up much less room than does that of iMovie. Basically, when working on video projects, the Final Cut Express interface is just a much more efficient way to get things done.
