33. Teachers
• teachers sometimes feel overwhelmed
• need to learn how to pick between gimmicks and real advancements.
• level of resistance
• expensive equipment is of little value
• barriers to successful integration remain
• the burden to create or curate content for digital learning
• develop the digital literacies and skills which are necessary for the 21st
Century
• “The best thing to invest in if you want to improve the use of technology
in a school is connectivity and teacher training.”
• technology is opening up education and opportunities to learn to so many
more people. Once you have an internet connection and a web browser
you can learn almost anything from almost anywhere.
• shift from print to digital
34. If we are using technology that has been
designed solely for language instruction it is
unlikely to have any real and long-term impact
on students.
If we can help them to use applications, not
because they help develop language, but
because they are the tools that we genuinely
use to socialise, study and develop ourselves,
then we will be equipping both teachers and
learners with the skills that we need to be
successful 21st-century citizens.

37. TweetDeck and hashtags. TweetDeck is a replacement for
the web-based Twitter interface and it allows you to
stream the information from Twitter into columns based
around specific themes. You separate the themes by
selecting a hashtag to follow. Hashtags are the key words
like #edtech or #elt so then I have a column with a stream
of information that’s specific to my interests. It makes it
much easier then to find the good stuff and ignore the
noise.
