Editor's Notes
Meet Thommy and Freckles. Both have died since their story was published in 2006. One was drug related and the other child died when hit by a car. They too had dreams. They dreamed up growing up, opening street vending business and living honorable lives.
Dennis and Marwin, 15 years of age just began a two-year Bible Study training course. This semester they are taking: Personal Evangelism,1, Courtship, Marriage, and the Christian Home, English 1, Personal Hygiene, Methods and Principles of Teaching 1, Doctrine of Scripture, Choir & Voice, Doctrine f Salvation, Perhaps they will be the first of many preachers, evangelists and, teachers that come from our orphanage.
There were 400 in attendance. Applying simple math, 40 of these children come from families where their basic needs aren’t even met. Look around te congregation for us, that would mean may 25 of us would have lack sufficient funds for our basic needs.
But then, what are we to do?
As we bring good news of a good and sovereign God, there is great hope!
Ahh! So the poor have hope and injustice shuts her mouth. We can retort that poverty is a product of great corruption and injustice. And, it is. But God’s word speaks of a hope… it speaks of a future. For good and not unto destruction.
Let the children come unto me
This brings us to Street Kids Philippine Missions. Meet our kids. They currently live on the 5 th floor of a commercial building. Most have been at the orphanage 4 years. When the church first brought then in, they were dirty and half naked.
Jesus call children unto himself and He promises that the poor have hope that the mouths of injustice would be shut.
Jr. and Jako first came to the orphanage 4 years ago as did Marwin,age15. Each of their backgrounds are tragic. Today, they are doing well in school. They love the Lord, read their Bibles daily and do well in school.
Let us apply the numbers to our own families. Our families have a great heritage in Christ. At times, our aspirations reach the starts.
Though their accommodations are bare bones, the children are thankful that they have somewhere they can call home. A place where there is structure, respect and safety. A place where God is glorified and the gospel spread.
Again, seeds are being planted.
If we thus serve God, and do good with what we have, it is promised that the Lord our God will bless us in all the works of our land. Please visit our website at www.streetkidspm.
