Evalution 7 progession from prem task
1. Looking back at your preliminary
task, what do you feel you have
learnt in the progression from it
to the full product?
2. Skills
• I have learnt and gained a lot more skills since my preliminary task,
as when I fist used Corel Draw I did not have much understanding
of how it worked and how to use it so my magazine was kept very
basic, however after having learnt how to use Corel Draw, through
the evolution of my magazine I was able to use a range of
techniques to create my magazine, i.e. the different fonts, aligning
of the text and.
3. Pictures
• For my preliminary task I only used two
pictures, which through my extensive
research of what magazines need to Preliminary
include there needs to be lots of pictures task photos
to grab the attention of potential readers.
Also the pictures need to convey a certain
message which I feel I did not portray in
my preliminary task. Therefore for my final
media product I made sure the Mise-en-
scene of the Photoshoot was all about
targeting my audience, as well as
revolving around my genre vintage, jazzy
and indie pop. Here are some pictures of
images I featured in my preliminary. In
comparison to the final media product.
Above are a few
photos I took for
my media product
4. Layout
Before my preliminary I did not
compare as much research into the
layout of magazines as I did for my
final product. This shows as for my
preliminary front cover I have only
used one Kicker, I only used two
colours, the masthead is slightly
unreadable and the strapline is in a dull
colour as well as being very long. One
positive part of my preliminary
magazine is the striking picture , which
I wanted to use the same idea for my
final media product. Therefore in my
final media product I used more
colours, colours my target audience
liked, more kickers and headings to
entice the audience and to show the
amount of content there is in my
magazine. I included a barcode and
date like any other conventional
magazine. I used varied font style, to
make my magazine more eye-catching.
Overall emphasized what I had done in
the preliminary task and used my
target audience to progress and
produce my final media product.
5. Target Audience and
Research
• I have learnt that the target audience is the most important
aspect when creating a magazine, something I did not take into
consideration with my preliminary task. I learnt this through the
research of other magazines, also through my focus groups,
lifestyle questionnaires and feedback. This is key on order to
attract people to purchase and read your magazine. Through my
research I gained more of an insight and understanding into
magazine conventions, such as: layout, colours, audience,
pictures, language. Language which includes: anchoring/
anchorage, semiotics, signifier/signified, connotation and
denotation.
