   Shared reading to model reading
    strategies and skills
   Leveled books for guided reading
Reading
 Independent reading to reinforce
  strategies and skills
 End of unit assessments
 Grammar taught with writer’s
  workshop and focused skills in each
  unit
Writer’s Workshop
 Focused corrections
 Modeling from author’s works
 Graphic organizers
 Conferencing
Spelling
 Each week will focus on new
  phonetic rule
 Alternative list will begin after first six
  weeks
 Spelling homework
 Tests will be on Fridays
Cursive Handwriting
 Zaner-Bloser program
 Lower case letters first, then upper
  case
 Graded on cursive with April report
  card
Math
 Everyday Mathematics Program
 Topics: Addition and Subtraction of whole numbers,
    measurement, multiplication and division, place value
    and decimals, geometry, fractions, probability
   Timed facts tests (3        rd
                                  graders are expected to
    complete 20 problems in one minute.)
   End of unit assessments will be sent home to be signed
    and returned to school

Student Responsibilities
 Bring the red folder and agenda back and
  forth from home to school everyday
 Complete written homework 3 times a

 Read for at least 20 minutes each night
 Practice math facts on a regular basis
