  5. 5. Reading Macmillan/McGraw Hill Treasures New theme each week 60% non-fiction, 40% fiction Shared reading to model reading strategies and skills Leveled books for guided reading
  6. 6. Reading Independent reading to reinforce strategies and skills End of unit assessments Grammar taught with writer’s workshop and focused skills in each unit
  7. 7. Writer’s Workshop Focused corrections Modeling from author’s works Graphic organizers Conferencing
  8. 8. Spelling Each week will focus on new phonetic rule Alternative list will begin after first six weeks Spelling homework Tests will be on Fridays
  9. 9. Cursive Handwriting Zaner-Bloser program Lower case letters first, then upper case Graded on cursive with April report card

Math Everyday Mathematics Program Topics: Addition and Subtraction of whole numbers, measurement, multiplication and division, place value and decimals, geometry, fractions, probability Timed facts tests (3 rd graders are expected to complete 20 problems in one minute.) End of unit assessments will be sent home to be signed and returned to school
