2. The Telecommunications Department at CHFH has lapsed into a state which may be considered unhealthy and certainly uncleanly. As a department which is one of the first things people see when they enter the hospital, we have been trying to improve the conditions. We have done what we can to correct this…which is difficult when phones need to be answered. Previous management was not willing to deal with these issues which created the conditions we are forced to live with. We have improved A LOT (if you can believe it) ourselves, bringing in cleaning items from home, etc. But when we clean, etc we must be able to answer the phones. This is difficult even on the overnight shift.
3. The Phone listing Display that was hanging until December of 2006- was published sometime between 1985-1998 Other info posted on hand written notes- new hires had to learn location of these notes
4. New Phone listing created and a uniform neat display was created, as well as a simple book with A-Z dividers which gave information on everything from C afeteria hours, days/times of M asses, etc.
5. All Piles of paperwork and/or data has been labeled, filed or discarded properly. This was a monstrous project which we still have one large filing cabinet drawer to complete. There were piles of paperwork in common work areas with applications and résumé's with social security numbers, as well as Physician home phone numbers, etc. This data has been secured.
6. which leaves a few issues... One being paint... Normal wear and tear (shown) as well as holes from MANY MANY frames/pictures of previous Directors “Accomplishments”
7. Safety Concerns.... Exposed Phone Lines, looks bad-- but is it safe? Look Down…. No access to power lines/outlets, power strips covered in dust, rodent traps (mice)….This is after we tried to remove some debris!
8. Modems, balanced behind Janel’s monitor. Have lost paging system completely for several hours because power cord on lower black box fell out. All pagers- physician, code pagers, etc. Electrical power cords filthy. Under phone box…Rodent traps, (circled) power supplies (arrow) …etc.
9. Front View from last operator position, between that and Janel’s desk.
10. ALL OF OUR PANTS have holes in the legs from the keyboard drawers. The wrist pad is worn off in the middle, and end caps long lost, leaving sharp points that snag clothing, scrape legs.
11. Our heating/cooling “Unit”and window shelf (recently cleaned by Environmental services) The unit is almost useless. (Rust is horrible, makes noises… always lukewarm air) Our heat comes from opening doors, or opening windows and using a fan for cool air.
12. Rugs were not replaced all the way under the operators due to the wires…. Blue wire ties were put in by one of our employees in January, which only marginally helped. At this time while doing that dead rodents were discovered, food, and a mouse made a midnight appearance… The operator was pregnant, her water broke a few hours later and she had her baby the next day!
16. Less than 5 MD’s use their assigned light. The system is 97% unused ( at least ) Security cameras have only 3 out of 7 that work. The camera on the front door (used by 11-7 Operators to ID visitors—has obstructed view into vestibule in front door.
17. Visitor’s head can not be viewed. Poor quality and signage obstruction (Red boxes) Make this camera almost useless. The operator can’t see and must extensively question any visitor.
18. Current surveillance at Telecommunications Dept. If upgraded (or more cameras connected) we could monitor when security is not in the shack.
