                    is also called
             ACID DYSPEPSIA ,
             WHICH IS ONE OF THE

H Y P E R A C I D I T Y is a medical condition in which
    the stomach secretes a L O T O F A C I D S .
       It can be caused due to various reasons

                MEDICATIONS,
              STRESSED LIFESTYLE
               AND SPICY FOODS.
Acidity or acid reflux
     is a condition where the gastric juices
           and stomach contents flow
backwards from the stomach to the oesophagus.

    The oesophagus is the tube connecting
         the mouth and the stomach.

   This particular occurrence causes irritation
     in the oesophagus often leaving a sour
           or bitter taste in the mouth.

        Heart burn is also caused by it.
Sometimes,
the problem aggravates and lead to other
          complications such as
  chronic indigestion and gastric ulcers.


      The problem of hyperacidity
   affects more than 55% population
              of the India.
H y p e r a c i d i t y has various symptoms,
                which can include

                  sudden
               stomach pain,

                 vomiting,
              loss of appetite,

                 flatulence
                     and
                 heartburn.

      Hyperacidity can be caused due to following reasons –

Medications
– Hyperacidity can be caused due to prolonged intake of various
medications.
--Some anti-inflammatory drugs, when taken for a long period of
time can develop chances of hyperacidity.
Alcohol
– Drinking alcohol can not only damage your liver, but also can
give invitation to hyperacidity problem.
Smoking
– Heavy smoking is considered to be the other most important
cause of hyper acidity.
Other causes of acidity include -

         Pregnancy

           Obesity

            Aging

           Fasting

     Eating junk foods
Acidity problems can
      interfere your daily activities,
    hence it should be treated timely.

   digestive diseases in the India alone.

The home remedies for acidity
are without any side effects and

          immense relief
     if consistently pursued
Let us take a look at some of the
            home remedies for acidity:

  Calcium gives immediate relief from acidity.

Drinking cold milk in small quantities after meals
           can help bring down acidity.
  Ice creams are also known to help in acidity.

A pinch of baking soda added to a glass of water
   can give immediate relief from gas and acidity.
Acidic and sour condiments like sauces,
hot sauce,
vinegar,
pickles etc. should be avoided.

Fried and oily food
can give a bad time and should be kept away.

Keep away from eating raw vegetables like
onion,
radish,
cucumber,
tomatoes and peppers.
Sipping on
mint juice after meals
can be very useful.

Suck on a
small clove
to get relief from acidity.
It helps in subsiding any acid reflux tendencies.

  Bananas are full of potassium and can help
   reduce acidity symptoms if taken daily.

Coconut Water sipped throughout the day can
  give relief from incessant heart burn.

           Ginger is very useful in
       treating digestion problems.

    A spoonful of ginger juice 2-3 times
         a day can relieve acidity.

       A small stroll or walk
   post meal is very beneficial.

LASTLY,
               DRINK lots of WATER,
               about 6-8 glasses a day.

      during or immediately after

Myth # 1 Ulcers: Spicy food and stress cause stomach ulcers.

         False - The truth is, the majority of stomach ulcers
          are caused either by infection with a bacterium
          called Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) or by use of
     pain medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen,
   the so-called non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
    Most H. pylori-related ulcers can be cured with antibiotics.
 NSAID-induced ulcers can be cured with time, stomach-protective
          medications, antacids, and avoidance of NSAIDs.
 Now that it is appreciated that H. pylori and NSAIDs are the cause
 of most ulcers and patients are being managed appropriately, the
ulcers that are coming to medical attention are increasingly likely to
     be unrelated to H. pylori or NSAIDs. Spicy food and stress
    (except when associated with extreme medical conditions)
          may aggravate ulcer symptoms in some people,
 but they do not cause ulcers. Ulcers can also be caused by cancer.
Myth # 2 Heartburn:

           Smoking a cigarette helps relieve heartburn.

                                 False -
     Actually, cigarette smoking may contribute to heartburn.
 Heartburn occurs when the lower oesophageal sphincter (LES) –
    a muscle between the oesophagus and stomach – relaxes,
           allowing the acidic contents of the stomach
           to splash back (reflux) into the oesophagus.
  People who smoke more frequently have inflammation of the
                      oesophagus (esophagitis),
          presumably caused by increased reflux of acid,
                    that is the basis of heartburn.
The increased reflux is believed to be due to the fact that cigarette
                  smoking causes the LES to relax.
Myth # 3
      Constipation: Habitual use of enemas to treat constipation is harmless
                                  false
It is not clear whether or not habitual use of enemas is harmless
  since there has been very little study of the effects of enemas
                    or laxatives over the long term.
Early studies showed that laxatives might injure the colon if taken
    chronically by impairing contraction of the colonic muscles,
        and this finding was extrapolated to include enemas.
          The data from the studies is not strong, however.
   In fact, some physicians feel that enemas are preferred over
         laxatives since they are a more "natural" means of
                    stimulating a bowel movement.
       (Enemas mimic a large amount of stool in the rectum,
             the usual stimulus for a bowel movement.)
             An on-going need for enemas is not normal;
    you should see a doctor if you find yourself relying on them
        or any other medication to have a bowel movement.
Myth # 4
           Inflammatory Bowel Disease
     (Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease):
      Inflammatory bowel disease is caused
            by psychological problems.
                             False -
   Inflammatory bowel disease is the general name for two
  diseases that cause inflammation in the intestines, Crohn's
   disease and ulcerative colitis. The cause of the disease is
unknown, but researchers speculate that it may result from a
virus or bacteria interacting with the body's immune system.
    No evidence has been found to support the theory that
 inflammatory bowel disease is caused by tension, anxiety, or
any other psychological factor or disorder, although these can
        aggravate the discomfort caused by the disease.

People who smoke more frequently have inflammation of the oesophagus (esophagitis), presumably caused by increased reflux of acid, that is the basis of heartburn. The increased reflux is believed to be due to the fact that cigarette smoking causes the LES to relax.
