6. First Up: New Zealand
Youngest Country on Earth!
If you can’t see this video play, search YouTube for New
Zealand, Forever Young.
7. Next: Australia!
If you can’t see this video play, search YouTube for Men At
Work, Down Under. Vegemite sandwich is right at 1:00 in
the video.
8. Things to Keep in Mind
• Both countries use different currencies
• Both countries are in the Southern Hemisphere:
• Further south you go, the colder it gets
• Further north you go, the warmer it gets
• While we’re in Spring, these countries are in Fall
• Northern Hemisphere has hurricanes
• Southern Hemisphere has Typhoons which spin in the opposite direction
• It’s said whirlpools (and toilets) spin in the opposite direction
9. Louisville – Houston – Los Angeles – Auckland
All you have to
do is ‘get to/from
the airport’, EF
handles all the
rest.
*ARRIVE at SDF-
Louisville no later
than 10:30am. I
plan to arrive at
10:00-10:15am.
14. Day 1 – Fly from Louisville -> Houston ->
Los Angeles -> Auckland
Something else happens on Day 1 – we cross the International
Date Line. Instead of wondering/worrying if its fast (Eastern) or
slow (Central) time, we’ll have to wonder which day it is!
19. Day 6 –Free time AM, then
Fly from Auckland to Sydney
Walking Tour of The Rocks - unique
place in Sydney’s colonial history--
considered the birthplace of European
Australia on the western shoreline of
Sydney Cove.
23. Day 10 – Cairns (Great Barrier Reef)
Highly recommended to snorkel; it's safe, life vests are given and
you're near the pontoon boat, plus the Great Barrier Reef is
disappearing and may not be around much longer!
27. Currency
Australia is nearly 1 for 1 (98-99% of US $)
New Zealand is close (94-95% of US $)
I would recommend using a Capital One credit card
– no foreign currency transaction or conversion fees.
If you do convert/bring cash, please only use a small
amount. If cash is stolen, it cannot be replaced.
28. Tips & Tipping
• For the majority of situations in NZ/AU, you won't have to
tip a dime. Here are the rare occasions when you are
expected to leave gratuity:
• 10% in *fine* restaurants ONLY
• Taxis: Round off the fare
• There are usually no mandatory gratuities or built in
restaurant service charges of any kind in Australia,
although a 10% Goods and Services Tax (GST) will be
included in the total figure on any bill.
29. Tips & Tipping
• We, as a group, WILL tip the following:
• Tour Leader – Anja
• Bus Drivers
• City Guides
• Please bring an additional $100 for tipping.
• Give to me and I will distribute to each of the above the
last time we see each of these individuals.
• It’s best if you give it to me at the
airport so you don’t spend this by end of trip.
•
30. Power Adapters & Converters
Need a universal travel adapter to fit the
wall plug, then need a converter to take
power down from 220 to 110.
Best Buy has
both (below)
together for only
$39.99
31. PACK LIGHT!!!
• I bring everything I need in carry-ons ONLY – this is free
• If you bring additional bags to be CHECKED, there are
fees which are not included, traveler responsibility
• From Air New Zealand: For travel originating in the US
or for travel to the US which is not en route to another
country United States legislation requires that all

travelling to the US as their final destination, will have
the same carrier’s baggage allowances and charges
