2. Why
• Frequently updated, common platform for
deployment
• Ability to re-run software/data on a specific
release to ratify claims and to make
possible the same result.
• Can immediately share with Lab
employees/guests, with goal of providing a
generic open-to-public image.
7. Technical notes
• Uses a compressed, read-only filesystem
for /jgi/tools (minimize AWS $/GB/month)
• Excludes over 75% of the unused cruft in
JGI Tools (minimize AWS $/GB/month)
• Version number is time based. Eg.: fiscal
year 2011, Q4. == v. 0.11.4
• JGI/AMI v X.Y.Z can be cited in footnotes
8. Technical notes
• Can update JGI Tools as frequently as we
want. Eg.: v 0.11.4u1, v 0.11.4u2, etc.
• Old Images will be archived at JGI, not on
AWS. Can be re-uploaded to Amazon by
anyone at their expense,
• Maximum of 1 year worth of updates will
be available in AWS specifically to reduce $/
GB/month
9. All the usual tools
• System & JGI Perl
• GNU Compiler collection 4.4
• R&D Tools
• JGI/Debian OS pseudo-environment
