Fanfiction is a form of textual poaching by fans for various mediums including TV, film, books, and even comics. I chose the website Archive of Our Own to gather the data.

2. Archive of Our Own
Archive of Our Own or AO3 is a website that currently houses fanfiction that is uploaded by fans. It’s
the second largest database for fanfiction right behind fanfiction.net. More people have started to use
AO3 due to it being easier to navigate. It’s part of the Organization for Transformative Works which is a
non-profit that is made by fans for fans. They believe that fanworks that are transformative are legitimate.
They recently made Time Magazine Staffs 50 Best Websites of 2013

3. Fanfiction is fan written stories that include characters and settings from TV shows,
books, comics, cartoons, etc...
Fans take these characters and settings and write stories that vary in subject
matter, era, sexual orientation, age, and even sometimes gender. This gives a way
for fans to use characters they already know and love and create situations for them
that otherwise would not be possible.
Fandom
Fandom is the term for an entire fan base. It’s short for Fan Kingdom. Many
fandoms will name them selves like Gleeks, Sherlockians, and Whovians.
Sometimes if there is a large group of people who like more than one show
they will name that fandom. There is one for people who like the TV shows
Sherlock, Dr. Who, and Supernatural who are called
SUPERWHOLOCK.

There are also OTP’s which stands for “One True Pairing” and that is the ultimate
couple for that person. Slash is also a term you may hear. Slash is represented by
a slash between two names like this, Kirk/Spock. Generally slash is not canon and
many times includes two male characters who many times are heterosexual in
canon.

It’s everything within the show that has already happened. Non-Canon is content
that is not in the show but written into a fic by the author. There is also Fanon which
is content that the fandom believes to be true about characters or settings but has
