5. Bagpipe
It’s a wind instrument with a preformed
tube, called ‘‘puntero’’ where the
musician introduces the air, the ‘‘odre’’, a
big air-bag where the air is contained, and
another tube, with the form of a
recorder or a flute, through which the air
goes out.

The origin of the bagpipe is not exactly
known, but there are some Egipcian
pictures which represent an instrument
wich looked like it. It was used by the
Roman infantry, and it soon became
popular in northern Spain (especially
Asturias), Scoland and Ireland.

9. Celtic Music
The celtics were an Asturian cilivization.
The instruments they used were Romanic
or Medieval ones. What we know
nowadays like celtic music is the
traditional music of the regions where
celtics lived 2000 years ago. Some of the
most important celtic musicians are
Hevia, Celtas Cortos and Enya.
11. Asturian Dances
The most famous Asturian dances are
Corri-Corri, Pericote, Fandangos,
Giraldillas, Jotas, Saltones and Danza
Prima. They are all traditional and they
are many years old.

Melendi: He’s 25. He studied with the
famous F1 racer Fernando Alonso. He
won 6 platinum discs.
Danny Daniel: He was a famous Pop
singer and composer.
Tino Casal: He was a singer, composer,
sculptor and painter.
15. Tonada
It’s one of the most valuable treasures of
the Asturian heritage. It was transmitted
orally from parents to children. It talks
about the daily life in the mine or in the
countryside, popular traditions or even
the life of the musicians.
16. El Sueño de Morfeo
It’s an Asturian group formed in 2002.
The three components are Raquel del
Rosario, David Feito and Luis Suárez. It’s
a pop group with rock and folk influences.
They have recorded 5 CDs.
